Foam Beetle

Posted on June 21, 2012 by admin in Fly Tying Video, Terrestrials - 2 Comments

The foam beetle fly pattern is easy to tie, but remains one of my top producers during the summer months. Trout love to eat beetles (and ants) that are blown into the water. I tie this pattern in sizes 12-18. Black is my best color, but i have had success with olive and brown versions.

For materials visit our Webstore: http://shop.flyfishsd.com

I am an avid trout fisherman from Wisconsin and am coming to your state in November.
I am coming to pheasant hunt, but also try some trout fishing if I can.

I am not looking for exact locations of hot spots or streams, but just a general area to do both. Fish and pheasant hunt. For all the research I have done, it looks like fishing on one part of the state and pheasant hunting in another. Would you know of an are where I might be successful at both hunting and fishing.

Thank you for any help. Yours truly,

    Noel Oscar.

      Noel,

There are a few places to hunt on the west side of the state. The best areas west will be down by Angostura Reservoir and the town of Oral. Otherwise its best to drive east of the Black Hills 2-2 1/2 hours.

the best trout fishing will be in the black hills on Rapid Creek, Castle Creek, and Spearfish Creek.

Give a call at the shop and we can do our best to help you plan your trip.

      thanks!
