Ryan Gabert of Dakota Angler & Outfitter ties a large streamer fly for northern pike. The fly has its origins in the popular Hang Time Streamer, but Ryan has put his own spin on it. This pike fly is sure to be a success this year on Sheridan, Pactola, and Oahe. Tie some of these up in various colors and start rigging your steel leaders.

I really enjoy the videos you guys produce. I have only been tying for 6 mo. or so….and I have learned a lot from you guys. A couple questions:
    1. I know hackles make flies look better, giving them color and imitating a lateral line..but how do they hold up after catching a few fish?
    2. I assume you can downsize this fly….I would fish it for largemouth/smallmouth, stripers or browns….but what hook would you recommend?

    Thanks for your time!!

Thanks for watching Jason- the hackles hold up pretty well. Less so if you are fishing for toothy critters. If you are primarily fishing them for bass, stripers, and brown trout you should find that they last quite well.

The Daiichi 2456 is a good stainless steel option for a hook. For Freshwater you could also use a Mustad 3366. Another option is the Gamakatsu SL 3H.

We have everything in stock. Give us a call and and we can get you whatever you might need. 605-341-2450 Thanks- Hans
