Tying the Czeched Out Hare’s Ear

Posted on April 20, 2012 by admin in Fly Tying Video, Nymphs - 2 Comments

This soft hackled Hare’s Ear pattern, tied on a jig style hook, is effective and quick fly to tie. The bugginess from the hare’s ear dubbing combined with the pink “hot spot” thorax make it irresistible. I typically tie it in a size 14, but it could easily be tied up to a size 8 and down to a size 16. This fly looks great when the body color is changed to olive or black.

Materials:

  • Hook: Umpqua C400BL Size 10-16
  • Bead: Slotted Tungsten Bead
  • Thread: UTC 70 Denier
  • Tail: Tan Partridge fibers
  • Rib: Peacock Midge Diamond Braid
  • Abdomen: Hareline Dubbin Hare’s Ear color
  • Soft Hackle:Tan Partridge Feather
  • Thorax: UV Hot Pink Ice Dubbing

Happy Tying

Yesterday I was fishing the Czeched Out Hare’s Ear in a small spring creek in Southeastern Minnesota. I had it bouncing off the bottom like you suggested in the video. This fly is awesome!! I caught 4 brookies and 1 brown all over 7″ in just a little over an hour. I really like your videos, they are very helpful!!
