Yellow Bellied Baetis Nymph

Small mayfly nymphs make up a large portion of our local trout’s diet. I like fancy and realistic fly patterns, but they aren’t always necessary. The Yellow Bellied Baetis Nymph is a super easy fly to tie. The YBBN is best fished in concert with another nymph. I typically fish it with another tungsten weighted fly in a two fly nymph rig or european nymph rig.

I commonly tie this nymph in sizes 18-22. It could be tied down to a 24 if you are imitating freshly hatched baetis nymphs.
